Sidings of the Afternoon Screenings – 2021 Fall

This fall Sidings of the Afternoon has been invited to screen at a variety of film and art festivals, on a variety of surfaces.

Cultural events have been very innovative since the beginning of the pandemic, with many festivals screening online, or in hybrid ways. EXiS in Seoul, South Korea, had the opportunity to screen films in person, at proper cinemas, which led to the silver-screen premiere of Sidings of the Afternoon this September.

However the most unusual exhibition platform is definitely the LED truck that MTL Connest chose to use, enabling thousands of pedestrians to enjoy the displayed (moving) images. Among others, Sidings of the Afternoon will be playing on the large LED screen on the side of this truck roaming around the city of Montreal. Here is the list of screenings this fall:

EXiS (Sept 9-16)

EXiS 2021 is the 18th Experimental Film and Video Festival in Seoul. It is a competitive international film festival, featuring experimental, documentary, and artistic moving images. This year’s edition will have in person screenings at indiespace Seoulcinema, Cinematheque Seoul Art Cinema, and the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea.

MTL connect (Oct 12-17)

Montreal Digital Spring (Printemps numérique) launched MTL Connect three years ago. The 2021 edition of MTL connect: Montreal Digital Week will take place in a hybrid format from October 12 to 17, 2021. The diverse programming of Montreal Digital Spring thrives to make digital arts more accessible to a larger audiences. For example: Sidings of the Afternoon will be playing on the side of an LED truck roaming the city of Montreal as part of the VIDEO:PLAY programming!

ANTIMATTER (Oct 14-24)

Encompassing screenings, installations, performances and media hybrids, Antimatter provides a noncompetitive setting in Victoria, British Columbia, free from commercial and industry agendas. Antimatter 2021 will be a hybrid IRL/online event running between October 14 and 24.

VAST LAB (Nov 11-14)

VAST LAB Experimental is running Nov 11-14 in Los Angeles, California, USA. VAST LAB is a creative incubator, a place for learners, and creative minds where they can collaborate and connect. This year’s festival will be a hybrid program of experimental films and visuals with a combination of online and outdoor screenings.
